Get the highest limits you can afford for uninsured motorist ("UM") and underinsured motorist ("UIM") coverage. There are too many teenage drivers driving around looking directly at their cell phones while driving. These drivers typically have the minimum auto insurance limits $15,000 / $30,000. These days medical bills add up quick, so a minimum policy like this is usually barely enough to cover medical bills for the people that were injured in the accident. Typically, you can get pretty good UM/UIM coverage for the cost of a few cups of coffee; really, it's that inexpensive per every 6 months. The worst feeling is to know that I have a client that suffered serious injuries and the at-fault party does not have enough insurance coverage or assets to make my client whole; and my client does not have sufficient UM/UIM coverage to make a claim against their own policy. Get the highest limits you can afford for UM/UIM coverage; otherwise, you may find yourself deeply frustrated by the lack of funds available to make you whole if you are ever the victim of an inattentive driver.
